Diamond valley lake(DVL) – Wildflower hike

Diamond Valley Lake is a stunning artificial reservoir located in Riverside County, California. The lake, which covers over 4,500 acres of land, is surrounded by rolling hills and stunning natural beauty. Every spring, Diamond Valley Lake becomes a must-visit destination for nature lovers worldwide as it transforms into a sea of vibrant colors with the arrival of the superbloom.

During the superbloom, the hills surrounding Diamond Valley Lake are covered in a blanket of colorful wildflowers, including poppies, lupines, and goldenbush. The flowers create a stunning contrast against the blue waters of the lake, making for an unforgettable sight.

4 things to keep in mind before heading toward DVL:

  • It is closed Monday & Tuesday
  • Weekends are quite busy, just to enter it took us 30-35mins in the queue. So if possible try visiting from Wed-Fri
  • There are entry fees per vehicle ($11) and also per person($4)
  • Lake closes at 6 pm and they ask to be back in parking by 5:45 pm so plan early

In addition to the superbloom, Diamond Valley Lake is also home to various other attractions. Visitors can go fishing, hiking, or even attend guided nature walks.

Poppies with Baby Blue Eyes

We went on Mar13th2023 and it’s already filled with amazing wildflowers. We saw at least 8-10 types of wildflowers which are definitely rare to witness in one region. Wildflower Trail is a 1.3-mile trail and is a great option for those who want to see the wildflowers that bloom around the lake during the springtime. The trail is easy in difficulty and offers excellent photo opportunities.

The superbloom is a rare natural phenomenon that occurs when wildflowers and other plant species bloom in large numbers and simultaneously. This is a site that can only be witnessed once every few years, and visitors to Diamond Valley Lake are fortunate enough to witness this incredible event. The flowers would be more in the next 2-3 weeks and we are also planning to go again around the 3rd week of April.
